Due to the Fourth of July Holiday, our Fifth Session had a lighter turnout with 12 young athletes hard at work advancing their skills and smoothing both offensive / defensive techniques we have been teaching all summer.
The players are truly starting to make great strides in developing their speed, agility and performance on both sides of the ball.
Knowing that we have players from several different local schools who compete in both the Costa Mesa and Newport Beach ML, it is going to be fun to watch how some transition from Camp to faceing off against one another this fall.
For our fifth outing, we covered the following:
- Fun Time + Warm-up
- Speed Training – Coming from Stop to Full Speed, Bounding, Hip Rotation
- Agility Training – Zig Zag running at speed to avoid Flag Pulls
- Proper Receiving of the QB Handoff
- Carrying the Ball “away” from the Approaching Defender
- Running Through a Defender’s Grasp by Leaning Into the Pull
- Spinning Away from a Flag Pull while Running at Speed
- Combing a Spin Away into a Lean Into Move
- Precision Routes & Connecting the Pass / Catch at “Your Spot”
- Learning of the Following Specialty Plays:
- Draw
- QB Pitch & Go
- Screen
- Pizza & Fun Time
Looking forward to our upcoming Session, July 12th.
See you all next week!
